Understanding and Managing Controller & Motor Temperatures on Your Scooter

Overview

This article explains the factors that affect your scooter's controller temperature, describes normal and critical temperature ranges, and provides steps to reduce controller temperature using your app settings. Following these guidelines will help you avoid overheating and ensure safe scooter operation.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have access to your scooter’s companion app to adjust acceleration and regen settings.
  • Make sure your scooter is powered on and connected to the app.

Factors Affecting Controller Temperature

Several conditions can influence how hot your scooter’s controller gets during use:

  1. Ambient Temperature
    1. The warmer the surrounding (ambient) temperature, the higher the controller’s operating temperature will be.
  2. Rider Weight
    1. Heavier riders require more energy to move, which increases the controller temperature.
  3. Ride Duration
    1. The controller temperature will gradually rise during longer rides.
  4. Riding Speed, Acceleration, and Regen
    1. Higher acceleration and aggressive regen (regenerative braking) settings significantly increase controller temperature.

💡Tip: To keep your controller cooler, reduce acceleration and regen settings in your scooter’s app. This lowers the energy demand on the controller.

Understanding Controller Temperature Ranges

Monitor your controller temperature and be aware of the following ranges:

Temperature Range Celsius (°C) Fahrenheit (°F) Description
Low (Ambient/Room) Slightly above outside temperature N/A The controller will always be slightly warmer than the ambient temperature.
Normal Running Temperature 50–75 120–165 This is a very normal riding temperature.
Hot 85–95 185–200 Considered hot. Pause your ride and let the scooter cool down if the controller reaches this range.
Critical Above 100 Above 215 CRITICAL! Immediate action required to prevent damage.
