AUSTRALIAN ROAD RULES

Every scooter in this guide is capable of speeds well above what's road-legal in any Australian state or territory. Manufacturers and retailers market their full unlocked top speed as “private property only.” On public roads and paths, e-scooters are restricted, commonly to 25 km/h, though limits and legality vary by state and territory. What defines a performance scooter?

Performance scooters can reach 64 km/h easily, typically run dual motors on 52V or higher, and weigh 32+ kg. They have better braking and suspension systems to handle higher speeds. These are machines purpose-built for riders who want speed.

The speed reality: what 97,000 rides reveal

Every performance scooter is marketed with a top speed over 64 km/h, but how fast do performance riders actually go?

Most performance riding (on private property, off-road, or wherever locally permitted) happens between 40 and 56 km/h. Think of it like a sports car: you want the engine relaxed at highway speed, not at the redline. A scooter with an 80 km/h ceiling cruising at 48 feels effortless. A scooter that tops out at 45, riding at 45, is working as hard as it can. Headroom is the real spec.

The 5 best performance scooters of 2026

We went from least to most expensive so you can see exactly what each extra dollar buys. Prices are in AUD from each brand's Australian storefront. GPS-verified top speeds are from independent reviewer testing (unlocked, private-property conditions); treat them as a measure of headroom, not a road-legal figure.

VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter

VSETT 10+ Review: $ 3,499 AUD

BATTLE-TESTED VETERAN

The VSETT 10+ is the scooter everyone recommends on Reddit, and they’re not wrong. Successor to the legendary Zero 10X, it has been earning its reputation since 2021. Five years is a lifetime in this industry. The fact the 10+ is still in the conversation says something real about how well this platform was designed.

What reviewers found:

What reviewers found: ESG measured a GPS top speed of 69 km/h (the speedometer said 79, always trust GPS over the display). 0 to 24 km/h in 1.9 seconds, matching the Kaabo Wolf Warrior. Range of 55 km on ESG's hilly course, 28% further than the Zero 10X on the same route. The stem clamp, NFC key, self-cancelling turn signals, and adjustable hydraulic rear suspension are all executed well. ESG called the overall ride quality “outstanding.”

Best for:
Riders who want a battle-tested platform with 5 years of community support. If anything goes wrong, there’s a forum post for it.

Not ideal for:
Riders who want app customization, a modern display, or better IP rating. It’s sturdy, but it shows its age.

VSETT Engineering Note
Nami Klima Electric Scooter

Nami Klima Review: $ 2,799 - $3,299 AUD

BEST ACCELERATION

Nami built their reputation on the Burn-E, one of the most celebrated performance scooters ever made. The Klima takes that same engineering passion and packages it into something lighter, more portable, and significantly cheaper. The headline: 0 to 48 KM/H in under 5 seconds. That’s an extremely short list.

What reviewers found:

Logan full hydraulic disc brakes stop the Klima in under 1- feet from 15 mph. It's one of the best braking distances ESG has ever recorded at any price point. Dual rebound-adjustable KKE coil shocks feel “almost like a trampoline hitting bumps.” ESG’s verdict: “literally not a single scooter currently on the market that beats the Klima for acceleration at this price”.

FLAG: No official Australian Storefront

There is no official Nami storefront in Australia. The price shown is from an authorised third-party retailer (Urban Wheelz). Confirm current stock and price before publishing.

Segway GT3 Pro Electric Scooter

Segway GT3 Pro Review: $5,499 AUD

Most Polished

The GT3 Pro is Segway doing what Segway does best: taking a category and applying massive engineering resources to make the most polished, feature-complete version of it. 72-volt system, UL 2272 battery certification, ABS braking mode, traction control, proximity unlock and other things not all scooter brands offer.

What reviewers found:

ESG verified 77 km/h with an 86 kg rider. 0 to 48 km/h in 3.9 seconds at 90% battery, but that slowed to 5.6 seconds at 20% battery (40% slower). ESG rated the hydraulic linkage front suspension “next level.” Braking: 1.5 metres from 32 km/h. Notable quirks: 53.1 kg means you're not carrying this upstairs; the suspension bottoms out on curb hops; parking mode auto-locks the throttle at stops.

Apollo Phantom Stellar Electric Scooter

Apollo Phantom Stellar Review: $ 4,499 AUD

Best Overall Performance Electric Scooter in 2026

In 2020, ESG called the original Phantom “the scooter that changed everything.” Several iterations later, the Phantom 2.0 Stellar is the current 60-volt flagship, now running Apollo's updated Mach 3 controller and Ludo Mode. Independent reviewer testing of the prior-generation Phantom Stellar (GPS-verified 79 km/h and 60 km on the hilly range course with acceleration maxed, ridden by a 107 kg test rider) is the most recent third-party data available. Apollo's own published figures for the current 2.0 Stellar are below.

Three engineering decisions that define the Phantom Stellar:

  1. 4-piston hydraulic brakes. Every competitor runs 2 piston. At 50 mph, stopping distance depends on how evenly force distributes across the rotor. Four pistons spread the load more evenly, reducing hot sports and creating a smoother, more progressive feel. When scrubbing speed from 45 to 25 mph in traffic, you want brakes that respond linearly to your input.

  2. Samsung 21700 cells with CoreShield fire-retardant gel. The 1,800 Wh pack sustains the 100 amp discharge the MACH 3 controller demands without thermal degradation. The battery cavity is filled with fire-retardant gel, if a thermal event occurs, the gel contains it. No other scooter offers this yet.

  3. MACH 3 controller at 100 amps. App-tunable acceleration curves, regen braking intensity, speed limits, and real-time motor diagnostics. Freshly Charged called it "transformative".

EMOVE Roadster Electric Scooter

EMOVE Roadster Review

Ultra Fast Hyperscooter for Extreme Performance Riders

We included the Roaster for one reason: to show how far this category can go. ESG’s Paul Somerville, who over the years tested more scooters than anyone in the industry, called it “ greatest hits collection of every favorite scooter I’ve ever ridden.” It comes with what reviewers affectionately call a “death waiver”.

EMOVE Roadster Scooter Specs

The Roadster is not for everyone. It’s an experts-only machine at a price that makes everything else look affordable. Five modes from gentle to genuinely terrifying. At 40 mph it feels stable, above that, a bit more sensitive. It dominated ESG’s 3-hyperscooter drag race against the Inmotion RS Midnight and Wolf King GTR.
