Are E-Scooters Legal?
Yes, as of 2024, e-scooters are legal across Victoria. Riders must adhere to new rules designed to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
What Can You Do on an E-Scooter?
What you need to do
- Be 16 years or older.
- Wear a helmet (we didn't find any specification on the type of helmet that's required)
- Ride at 20km/h max.
- Ride on bicycle paths, or roads with max speed limits of 60 km/h.
- Use front and rear lights as needed.
- Park responsibly, avoid disrupting pedestrians or leaving your scooter in a way that it could be a hazard.
What You Can’t Do
- Riding on footpaths.
- Riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Carrying passengers or animals.
- Exceeding 25 km/h or riding on roads with speed limits above 60 km/h.
- Using handheld mobile phones while riding is prohibited—and from personal experience, it’s something you should avoid for your own safety as well.
